Antibacterial & Antiseptic Wound Protection

Filta-Bac contains two antiseptic ingredients, cetrimide and benzalkonium chloride, which provide antibacterial activity.

When applied to affected skin, the cream forms a covering layer that helps protect superficial wounds from external contamination.

It can be used as part of the management of minor cuts, abrasions and damaged skin.

Protective Barrier for Damaged Skin

Filta-Bac is designed to act like a protective second skin.

The cream forms a physical covering over the affected area, helping shield damaged tissue from dirt, insects and environmental exposure.

Its formulation helps maintain moisture while allowing the wound surface to breathe.

This protective environment supports the body's natural healing processes.

Sun Protection for Horses & Livestock

Animals with pink, lightly pigmented or exposed skin can be particularly vulnerable to sun damage.

Filta-Bac contains titanium dioxide and zinc oxide, mineral ingredients that provide a physical sun-filtering action.

It is particularly useful for protecting:

  • Pink noses and muzzles
  • White or unpigmented skin
  • Areas with thin or missing hair
  • Sensitive skin exposed to sunlight
  • Superficial wounds requiring additional sun protection

Ideal for Horses

Nature Vet Filta-Bac is a useful product to keep in an equine first aid kit.

It may be used for superficial skin concerns including:

  • Minor cuts and scrapes
  • Saddle sores
  • Girth rubs
  • Skin abrasions
  • Sun-sensitive muzzles
  • Exposed pink skin
  • Superficial wounds requiring a protective covering

Horses with deep wounds, significant swelling, infection or persistent lameness require veterinary attention.

Suitable for Dogs

Filta-Bac can also be used on dogs for appropriate superficial skin conditions and sun-sensitive areas.

It provides antibacterial protection while helping shield exposed skin from sunlight.

Prevent excessive licking or ingestion of the cream, and seek veterinary advice for wounds that are deep, infected or slow to heal.

Important: The Australian registered label covers dogs, horses, cattle, sheep and goats. Consult a veterinarian before considering use on cats.

Horses, Cattle, Sheep & Goats: Apply each morning to exposed areas. Reapply up to three times daily when required.

Dogs: Apply to exposed skin up to three times daily as required.

Every third day, completely clean the treated area before reapplication.

2. Antibacterial & Antiseptic Protection

Apply a covering layer of Filta-Bac to damaged skin areas.

Repeat at least once daily until healed, following the product label.

If the condition fails to improve or worsens, seek veterinary advice.

3. Wound Protection

Before applying Filta-Bac:

  1. Gently clean the affected area.
  2. Remove excess dirt and contamination using mild soap and warm water.
  3. Rinse thoroughly.
  4. Apply Filta-Bac to cover the damaged area.
  5. Reapply daily as directed.
  6. Every third day, completely clean the area before applying fresh cream.

For serious wounds or injuries, obtain veterinary assessment before relying on topical treatment.

4. Dairy Animals

For teat and udder sores, apply Filta-Bac immediately after milking.

Before the next milking, remove any remaining cream by washing the area with warm water and mild soap, then rinse thoroughly.

Why Use Filta-Bac for Saddle & Girth Sores?

Saddle and girth rubs can occur when equipment repeatedly contacts the horse's skin.

Filta-Bac provides a protective antibacterial covering over superficial damaged areas.

It helps protect the affected skin while natural healing occurs.

Do not continue using equipment that causes rubbing or pressure. Allow the area to heal and correct the source of irritation before resuming normal use.

Sun Protection for Pink-Skinned Horses

Horses with white markings, pink noses and unpigmented skin may be particularly sensitive to sunlight.

Filta-Bac provides a physical sun-filtering layer that can help protect these vulnerable areas.

For horses spending extended periods outdoors, combine suitable topical protection with shade and appropriate protective equipment where needed.
